Florida Man Charged in Daughter’s Death, Lewd Behavior

Authorities say a Florida Panhandle man was having an affair with the 13-year-old girl who accidentally backed over his 6-year-old daughter with a truck.

During a hearing Monday, Jefferson County prosecutors announced news charges of lewd and lascivious battery and solicitation of a minor using an electronic device against 38-year-old David Courson. He was previously charged with manslaughter in the death of his daughter, Rebecca.

Authorities say Courson was the only adult at the Monticello home last month when the accident occurred.

Investigators reported finding open containers of alcohol, marijuana and a home-made bomb in the truck. They also found a cell phone with 200 text messages between Courson and the 13-year-old driver. WCTV news reports that the messages discussed previous sexual encounters.

The judge ordered that Courson be held without bond.
