Lawyer dad is charged with social-host violation over daughter’s ‘Playboy mansion’ themed party

A lawyer who specializes in medical marijuana cases was charged with violating a Poway, California, social-host ordinance over his daughter’s “Playboy mansion” themed 18th birthday party on Friday.

San Diego County sheriff’s deputies responding to neighbor complaints said they found two teenage boys unconscious and intoxicated at the home, as well as evidence of underage drinking by others among the 150 to 200 attendees at the party, according to ABC affiliates KGTV and the Denver Channel.

Attorney Jeff Lake did not respond to KGTV’s request for comment. It isn’t clear whether his wife, who is a former president of the local high school PTA, was home at the time.

The social-host ordinance provides for a jail sentence of up to six months, upon conviction, but Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, who lives in the neighborhood, says he would like it to provide even more of a deterrent.

“You have a party like this and it’s as though you’re handing out hand grenades as party favors,” he told KGTV. “It’s a disaster waiting to happen.”
