NEW: Divorce rates linked to how husband feels about wife’s friends

A new study is linking divorce rates to how married couples really feel about each other’s friends.

The study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships looked at 355 black and white heterosexual couples.

The results showed that only white couples were more likely to get a divorce, if the husband disapproved of the wife’s friends during the first year of marriage.

However when husbands of both races felt that their wive’s friends were interfering with their relationship, the couple’s divorce rate doubled, according to the study.

And when it came to the women, their opinions on their husband’s friends didn’t affect the relationship much, the study reported.

Maybe after all this time the Spice Girls were onto something when they said, “if you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.”
