Son sues dad for identity fraud, seeks over $1M in damages

When DeWayne Keith Long tried to purchase a home and discovered his credit was in the toilet, he at first assumed a credit reporting agency had made a mistake. Then he discovered he was the victim of identity theft by his own father-whose name is also DeWayne Keith Long-he contends in a federal lawsuit filed earlier this month in Orange County, California. The Santa Ana suit alleges that Long Sr. made use of his knowledge of his son’s date of birth, social security number and employment history to rack up some $90,000 in unpaid bills in his son’s name, the Orange County Weekly’s Navel Gazing blog reports. Long Jr. is seeking restitution, $1 million in damages and a court order that Long Sr. cannot use his personal information. The article doesn’t include any comment from Long Sr., who hasn’t yet answered the complaint.
