Survey finds 39.1 percent of Florida couples want a ‘Sleep Divorce’

A survey conducted by Mattress Clarity, a sleep product review site, found that out of 3,000 people surveyed, 39.1 percent of couples living in the Sunshine State would rather sleep in a separate bed then sleep together if given a choice.

Whether it’s due to different schedules, snoring, stealing the covers, or movement throughout the night, many people in the US are losing out on sleep because of the activity of their significant other.

The survey also revealed that 10.8 percent of people surveyed had a relationship ended because of sleep issues with their partner.

Over a fifth of couples (21.5 percent) said they have been in arguments regarding sleep habits, and over a quarter of them (27.8 percent) said they have also had discussions on whether to allow pets in the same bed.

Over 40 percent of people would not want to admit to family members or friends that they were sleeping in a different bed than their partner.

Commenting on the survey results, Joe Auer from Mattress Clarity says: “Sleeping in the same bed as your partner may still be the social “norm,” but that trend is certainly changing. If sharing a bed with your other half is leaving you tired and grumpy, why not consider a sleep divorce? Over a quarter of Americans have said that sleeping apart has improved their relationship.”
