A top college basketball recruit for the University of Miami was arrested Tuesday after a violent altercation at Florida International University, police said.
Dewan Huell, 19, a freshman forward on the UM basketball team, is charged with one count of battery, according to an arrest report.
FIU Police at the Modesto Maidique Campus said the All-American star went to his ex-girlfriend’s dorm room uninvited. When he entered the room, his ex, Autum Williams, and another man, Samuel J. Bailey, were hiding in a closet, according to a police report.
Heull allegedly grabbed Bailey by his shirt collar and dragged him out of the room — which left scratches on Bailey’s chest, police said.
Huell is a 2016 McDonald’s All-American from Norland High School. He was ranked the No. 21 player by ESPN.
The University of Miami has yet to comment on his arrest. It’s unknown if Huell has an attorney.
