MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An ex-cop out of North Miami is set to find out if he will be going to jail, and for how long Former North Miami police officer Johathan Aledda will be sentenced on Wednesday after being found guilty last month of culpable negligence in the shooting of an unarmed caretaker. MIAMI (CBSMiami)- A Miami-Dade police officer was arrested for allegedly selling stolen cars.
Officer Orestes Santiago Verdura, a six-year veteran with MDPD, stole the cars and brokered them with the help of 38-year-old Ariel Sanchez, according to investigators.
Sanchez, who is an associate of Verdura, is accused of delivering the vehicles.

Despite a 9% reduced crime rate statewide, Florida in 2018 saw an uptick in murders and rapes, according to statistics released Monday.
The fall in the state’s crime rate is inline with a 48-year trend of fewer robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies and car thefts, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s annual crime report.
