Officer Orestes Santiago Verdura, a six-year veteran with MDPD, stole the cars and brokered them with the help of 38-year-old Ariel Sanchez, according to investigators. Despite a 9% reduced crime rate statewide, Florida in 2018 saw an uptick in murders and rapes, according to statistics released Monday.
