Ex-Partner of Ponzi Schemer Scott Rothstein Set to Plead Guilty

A former law partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein is expected to plead guilty to charges of violating federal campaign finance laws.

The attorney for 52-year-old Russell Adler confirmed that Adler will enter a guilty plea at a hearing Friday in Fort Lauderdale federal court.

Prosecutors say Adler helped orchestrate thousands of dollars in bundled contributions from the now-defunct Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm’s employees and attorneys to John McCain’s 2008 campaign for president and Charlie Crist’s run in 2010 for the U.S. Senate. Authorities say the contributions were illegally reimbursed by the law firm.

Adler faces a maximum five-year prison sentence.

Rothstein is serving 50 years behind bars for a $1.2 billion scam involving investments in fake legal settlements. More than a dozen others have also been convicted.
