Florida Keys Woman Tried to Strangle Boy With Belt: Deputies

A Florida Keys woman was arrested after authorities say she tried to strangle a 10-year-old boy with a belt.

Ada Orellana Dubon, 31, was arrested on an aggravated battery on a child charge late Monday night, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said. She was being held without bond Tuesday and it was unknown whether she has an attorney.

Deputies responded to a residence at the 95.3 mile marker in Rock Harbor after a second child witnessed Dubon trying to strangle the boy and called a relative for help, who then called 911, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies arrived, they found Dubon was extremely intoxicated and could barely speak. A relative said she had ongoing issues involving alcohol, the sheriff’s office said.

The children told deputies Dubon had put a belt around the boy’s neck and began tightening it, and said she was going to kill the boy, the sheriff’s office said.
