Fort Lauderdale, Fla. police are looking for two robbers that stormed a home Monday morning, leaving former Kansas State basketball player Luis Colon and his girlfriend with bumps and bruises before taking off in their Lexus.
Police spokeswoman Detective DeAnna Greenlaw said the home invaders struck at about 6:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Southwest Sixth Street.
A man and woman in the home were awakened by the intruders and “at some point there was a physical altercation,” Greenlaw said. The two men wore black ski masks and restrained the couple in their room, police said.
The robbers then rummaged through the house and stole an unknown amount of property.
According to Miami Herald news partner CBS4, a neighbor who is also the couple’s landlord identified the victims as Luis Colon and Olathe native Elyse Ehlers. Judith Walton said they came to her door after being held hostage for nearly an hour.
They said “they came in, tied them up and pistol whipped them, and put a thing over his head like a pillow slip,” the neighbor told CBS4.
The robbers took off in the couple’s 2012 white four-door Lexus IS-250 with a Kansas State Alumni metal license plate frame. The car’s tag is BLM V77.
Both the man and woman were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Colon, who played at K-State under former coach Frank Martin until 2010, played professional basketball in Puerto Rico and South America.
