Parents Arrested After 3 Little Girls Found Living In Garbage Filled Home

Florida couple was arrested Friday police discovered their children living in filth, among bugs and human feces.

Police say a tip led them to the North Miami home, which had garbage piled ankle high. Wanick Joseph Cadet, 35, and Lourdes Ruiz, 32, lived with their three girls, all younger than eight years old, NBC Miami reports.

Authorities initially responded to investigate a possible fire, but a neighbor instead led them to witness the horrifying living conditions.

CBS Miami describes the scene:

Officers said [the children] were only wearing underwear and their room was also filled with garbage, roaches and another bed covered in mold and feces.
Roaches and flies were also scurrying in the refrigerator and throughout the home, according to police.
Officer said the bathroom was also filled with garbage and human feces.
Ruiz’s sister, Nilsa Ruiz, told Local10 that her sister recently lost her job and was struggling to make ends meet.

“Very overwhelmed at a lot of circumstances,” Nilsa Ruiz said. “And maybe that’s what led up to this too, because when somebody is depressed, that leads up to this.”

The girls are in the care of Cadet’s mother and are in good health, according to NBC Miami.

Cadet and Ruiz each face child neglect charges.
