The evidence against a 23-year-old man who faces murder and conspiracy charges is "purely circumstantial," says his Miami criminal defense attorney.

Deputies shoot man in Lake County during domestic violence call

Deputies responded to the dispute around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Dwights Road. When deputies arrived at the home, a few miles south of Clermont, Michael Carroll, 42, fired multiple shots at them, Sgt. Fred Jones of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Carroll was taken to an Orlando area hospital where he is in stable condition. No deputies were injured.

The disturbance began with a fight between Carroll and his son Sean Carroll, 21. When the Michael Carroll’s wife attempted to intervene she was punched in the eye, authorities said.

Sean Carroll was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence authorities said. A third person, Evan Kaplan, 19, is also facing a battery charge, deputies said.

Deputies said they have been called to the home seven times since 2012, including at least once for a domestic violence incident.

Because it was a law enforcement shooting, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
