Man accused of setting father on fire turns himself in to police

HOMESTEAD, Fla. –
A man accused of trying to kill his father by setting him on fire has been taken into custody.

Miami-Dade police said Tabias Rollins, 38, turned himself in Sunday at the Homestead Police Department.

Tabias Rollins, 38, turned himself over to Homestead police Sunday. Police had been searching for him since Saturday, when he allegedly doused his 64-year-old father in gasoline and then set him on fire at the family’s home along the 700 block of Northwest 17th Street after an argument.

The home was destroyed by the flames, and Rollins’ father was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Rollins faces a charge of felony arson and four charges of attempted murder because several other people were in the house at the time. He also faces a charge of grand theft auto because police said he stole his mother’s car to get away.

Police said Rollins was suffering from wounds suffered during the fire when he turned himself in to authorities. Police said he would be treated at a hospital before being booked into jail.
