Man fatally shot between Wynwood and Overtown, violence breaks out at crime scene

When someone has been severely injured, emotions tend to run high. That was the case last week when police rushed to the scene of a fatal shooting in Miami. According to reports, 25-year-old Brandon Walker was shot dead on Monday, April 8. Police arrived at the scene and were the process of investigating when members of Walker’s family reportedly crossed the barriers and rushed to the victim’s side.
The Miami Herald states that a fight broke out as law enforcement officials attempted to restrain the grief-stricken relatives. Footage of the incident – which took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. – showed an officer punching a man identified as Walker’s younger brother multiple times.
While a spokesperson from the Miami-Dade police department explained that the family members were tampering with the evidence by storming onto the scene, and that they had dealt blows first, another relative of the victim spoke out about the brawl.
“This is unbelievable. They should have had better control of the scene,” said Patricia Lammons, the 25-year-old’s step-aunt.
NBC Miami reported that two men were charged with resisting an officer after the incident. One of the individuals also faces a battery charge.
The scuffle between Walker’s family members and local police has practically overshadowed the homicide itself. Sources report that the boy had been shot several times as the assailant stood above him. No details have been released regarding potential suspects.
