Man fatally shot by girlfriend while sitting in car, family says
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – One person was killed Tuesday morning in what Miami Gardens police are calling a “domestic homicide.”
Miami Gardens police spokeswoman Carolyn Frazer confirmed that the incident occurred in the 15400 block of NW 15th Avenue.
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene and saw a dark-colored sedan that had crashed into a Jeep Wrangler outside of a home.
Loved ones identified the victim to Local 10 News as 25-year-old Rashad Walker, who they said was a kind man who was full of energy.
Before police could notify Walker’s relatives about his death, his family members who live nearby recognized his car that was covered by a yellow tarp and surrounded by investigators.
While police have only confirmed that they are investigating a domestic homicide, family members say Walker’s girlfriend shot him inside the car before climbing out and calling police.
They say police have the woman in custody.
Several people came out to the scene throughout the morning. Grieving family members and concerned neighbors say the block is known for being friendly and they never expected something like this to happen.
