Man killed in shooting just outside FIU
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 39-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon in a shooting at a shopping center near Florida International University’s main campus, police say.
Detectives say an argument inside a barbershop spilled outside into the parking lot along Southwest 8th Street and 107th Avenue. A subject pulled out a firearm, shooting the victim multiple times, said Det. Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
The victim was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Zabaleta said the suspect fled in a white vehicle in an unknown direction.
A “Be on the Lookout” was issued earlier in the afternoon for a white Mercedes-Benz SUV that was spotted leaving the scene.
Police could be seen detaining several people at the scene of the shooting, trying to determine if they had any involvement, but detectives have not yet called any of them a suspect, and at this point, no arrests have been made.
Police also taped off the area surrounding several businesses.
“Everything’s blocked off and we’re thinking of shutting down for the day, because it just doesn’t look like anything is going to pick up for the remainder of the day,” said Pedro Bracho, who works at one of the businesses nearby.
