LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Lauderhill police and deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office gathered at the scene of a crash Tuesday morning that occurred following a shooting.

According to BSO Sgt. Donald Prichard, authorities received a ShotSpotter alert shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of West Broward Boulevard in unincorporated Central Broward.

He said deputies responded to the scene and found multiple shell casings on the roadway in at the 2900 block of Northwest Second Street.

A short time later, authorities were called about a traffic crash in the area of Northwest 31st Avenue and West Sunrise Boulevard.

Lauderhill police responded to the scene and found a shooting victim inside one of the vehicles.

A man who was driving a white van in the area told Local 10 News reporter Trent Kelly that he was heading to work when a green Mustang came down the road the wrong way and crashed into his van.

He said the driver appeared to have been shot in the chest and he believes the shooting was the result of a robbery.

Other witnesses said they also saw the Mustang swerving and driving erratically just before the crash.

The driver of the Mustang, which has a bullet hole in the windshield, was placed into an ambulance and taken to a hospital.

“When he got out the car, he kind of jumped out, cause he was falling in the road,” the driver of the van said. “I tried to stop the traffic for him so he could — you know what I’m saying? And then he told me he had got shot, somebody shot him and tried to rob him. Then I ran to the van to grab my phone and call the paramedics.”

“How bad was he injured?” Kelly asked.

“He got shot in the chest, in the left side of his chest. He got shot in the side and I think one time in the leg,” the man said.

BSO detectives are investigating the shooting.
