Miami Grand Theft: Thief grabs pricey Mercedes from auto body repair shop – Sun Sentinel
Police are searching for a brazen auto thief who drove off from a Miami body shop with a Mercedes that was in for repairs. If found, he will be convicted of grand theft.
Miami Grand Theft: Police said the man walked into the main bay of the body shop and asked an employee about the types of services the company provides. The employee then directed the man to the shop’s office for assistance. The man then left the shop and wandered around in the parking lot, said police spokeswoman Detective DeAnna Greenlaw.
Later, the man returned to the shop through a different entrance and set his eyes on a pair of keys that were on the roof of a customer’s car that was being serviced, Greenlaw said.
The video shows the man running to a 2011 black 4-door Mercedes C300, getting into the driver’s seat and then backing out of the shop. An employee, who was crouched down working on the rear passenger side of the car, heard the sound of the engine and quickly jumped away, Greenlaw said.
An employee is then seen trying to stop the car as the thief speeds away. The car has a Florida license plate number ALC L37.
The person who grabbed the car was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with an unknown white graphic on the front and blue athletic shorts. However, he has not been identified.
