New details released about man accused of stabbing, carjacking that led to police chase

MIAMI – A 40-year-old fugitive went on a crime spree on Sunday in Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

Antoine Carr Acosta stabbed a man and stole a car from a woman in Homestead, police said. Police officers chased him on the Florida Turnpike until he crashed at Florida International University’s main campus, police said.

The stabbing over a drug deal was near the intersection of North Krome Avenue and Northeast 12th Street, according to Capt. Fernando Morales, a spokesman for the Homestead Police Department.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel airlifted the victim, who was in critical condition, to Jackson South Trauma Center, according to Morales. There weren’t any passengers inside the stolen car and no one was injured in the crash at FIU.

Corrections officers were holding Acosta without bond on Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Morales said the Miami Police Department wanted Acosta for a home invasion robbery.

Records show he has a criminal history in Miami-Dade that goes back to 2001 and includes arrests for disorderly intoxication, theft, assault, and robbery.

Acosta is facing charges of grand theft, fleeing and eluding police, resisting an officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and criminal mischief. Prosecutors have yet to charge him for the stabbing.
