Police: Submerged car with 2 bodies inside belongs to missing couple
Family and friends had hoped for the best after Alexandra “Ali” Picon and her boyfriend Brandon Arana didn’t come home Sunday.

They used social media to share pictures of the couple — her with curly hair and him with a huge grin — asking everyone for help in finding them.

“Please keep them safe and bring my sister back home in peace,” Picon’s brother, Carlos, posted on Facebook Tuesday.

Picon and Arana, both 21, were last seen at World of Beer and Cadillac Ranch at Town and Country Mall in Kendall. On Sunday, their families reported them missing. Picon’s mother said it wasn’t like Ali not to check in.

The families’ hopes were dashed Thursday when Miami-Dade police towed a water-soaked, red 2014 Toyota Corolla — the same car the couple was last seen inside — from a Southwest Miami-Dade lake.

Inside the Toyota were two bodies, who on Friday were confirmed by the medical examiner to be Picon and Arana.

The car was found in a lake at Southwest 268th Street and 111th Avenue. Later in the day, survivors held a vigil by the water, throwing white roses in the couple’s memory.

“She was a very sweet girl. Her colleagues today are devastated,” said Carlos Ortega, vice president of passenger services at Oceania Cruises, where Picon worked several years. “There’s closure for the family, but it’s unfortunate it ended that way.”
