Incident occurred after man went to speak with girlfriend who worked there
PINECREST, Fla. – A fight outside a fast food restaurant in Pinecrest Monday night ended in a hail of gunfire.
Detectives said the shootout was between two men.
A man involved in the shooting, Azmeer Sayed, 20, told Local 10 News reporter Annaliese Garcia that he went to the McDonald’s on South Dixie Highway near 124th Street to speak to his 19-year-old girlfriend, who works there.
He said two other employees then went outside and starting fighting with him over his girlfriend.
“Well, I tried to talk to her outside to have a mature conversation about some other issues, and these two people came out acting like big macho men, coming up to me like, ‘Oh, you wanna bang it out?’ I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’” Sayed said.
He said the two employees shot at him and his friend who was there, and his friend fired back at them.
According to Sayed, his friend was shot in the leg.
“He was bleeding from his thigh, gushing blood,” Sayed explained. “I started freaking out. I’m like, ‘Oh no.’ So I ripped off my shirt, tried to compress the wound so it could stop the bleeding, and then I went outside and told people to ‘call 911, my brother got shot, he’s dying.’”
Sayed said they then drove away from the scene and crashed their car into a light post a couple blocks from the McDonald’s.
Evidence markers on the ground indicated several rounds were fired.
According to police, they received a call around 7 p.m. regarding two people shooting at each other outside the restaurant.
Sayed and his friend were taken to Jackson South Medical Center. The friend who was shot is in stable condition.
Deputy Police Chief Derrick Bowman said several people were detained for questioning, including two McDonald’s employees.
No arrests have been made.
McDonald’s released a statement saying, “Our first priority is always the safety of our customers and employees.” The company said they could not release any further information due to the ongoing investigation.
