She just turned herself in to cops on assault charges. So why is Cardi B in Miami?
Legal hassles, be darned.
Apparently, the show must go on for Cardi B.
Despite turning herself into NYC cops on Monday, the superstar rapper is in South Florida to do what she does best: perform.
The hip hopper was seen Wednesday on her hotel balcony with her baby Kulture, TMZ reports.
She’ll tape a set for the BET Hip Hop Awards at The Fillmore in Miami Beach on Saturday night, plus she is bound to be at the podium, nominated for 10 awards. She’s up for nods in several categories, including Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Album of the Year, MVP of the Year, Single of the Year and Hustler of the Year. The show airs at 8 p.m. on Oct. 16.
A BET spokesman told The Miami Herald that Cardi was initially going to talk to press, but now she is not even going to walk the red carpet before the show.
Cardi turned herself in to the New York Police Department on Monday, and was charged with two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of assault.
The charges stem from a violent incident at a Queens strip club back in August when the entertainer was allegedly “throwing chairs, bottles and hookahs” at around 3 a.m., according to NYC cops. Two female bartenders were apparently hurt in the melee, and lawyered up.
Cardi, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, disputes the charges: “We’re aware of no evidence that she caused anybody any harm on that night,” Jeff Kern, her attorney told press outside the police station. “We expect that the matter is going to be resolved expeditiously.”
Attorney Joe Tacopina, who is representing the bartenders, released a statement to CNN.
“Cardi B ordered and committed violent assaults against my clients, and is being called to justice for her crimes. Apparently, she thinks her celebrity status puts her above the law, since she has bragged to multiple people and on social media that she orchestrated these vicious attacks,” Tacopina said. “But reality is setting in, as justice does not care whether her name is Cardi B or Carly B, and she will now answer for her crimes.”
The new mom’s court date is Oct. 29, The New York Times reports. So we doubt she’ll stick around the Sunshine State for long.
