Sheriff’s deputy accused of robbery
If you’ve been accused of a crime, sometimes it can feel like your options are limited or like the whole justice system is against you, and this is why you need an experienced Miami criminal defense attorney to work with you and protect your rights in a court of law.
According to local sources such as CBS Miami and The News-Press, 41-year-old Mike Ronga, a deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested and charged with robbery on the evening of Sunday, May 12, following an incident that occurred after he investigated a disturbance at Maria’s Restaurant in Bonita Springs.
The source states that Ronga offered to give a 20-year-old man who was involved in the disturbance a ride home, but instead took him to a secluded area where he assaulted him and stole his cell phone and money.
“Words simply can’t express my disgust and disbelief. Mike Ronga has been arrested and jailed like a criminal should be and his betrayal of our office and the public trust is unforgivable,” Sheriff Mike Scott said in a statement. “Immediately upon learning of this, I ordered a full investigation as we would with anyone suspected of committing such a serious crime, and we will pursue prosecution and justice to the fullest.”
