Subway Pitchman Jared Fogle Admits to Child Porn, Sex Crime
Jared Fogle, the former longtime Subway pitchman who starred in one of the most iconic advertising campaigns, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of distributing pornography and attempting to pay for sex acts with children.
Under the terms of his plea agreement with federal prosecutors in Indiana, he agreed to a prison term of at least five years and could face up to 12.5 years behind bars.
The 37-year-old Indiana resident also agreed to pay $1.4 million in restitution to more than a dozen child victims, undergo sexual disorder treatment, and register as a sex offender. (Here’s the plea agreement and charging document filed in federal court).
Mr. Fogle rose to stardom as the face of Subway in 2000 after an advertising agency for the company read in the news about how he lost 245 pounds on a diet almost exclusively of Subway sandwiches.
Subway suspended ties with him in July after the head of his charitable foundation was arrested for child pornography and investigators raided Mr. Fogle’s home. On Tuesday, the restaurant announced on Twitter that it had cut ties with Mr. Fogle for good.
“We no longer have a relationship with Jared and have no further comment.”
