ATV accident results in injury

MARTINSBURG — Lewis County Sheriff’s Department investigated a two-vehicle all terrain vehicle accident Saturday night that resulted in personal injury. The accident occurred on Flat Rock Road near Centerville Road about 6:30 p.m.

According to a police report, Gage S. Dwyer, 21, was traveling west on Flat Rock Road and slowed due to glare and thick dust. Traveling behind him was James L. Brockhum, 26, who rear-ended the dirt bike and ran over Mr. Dwyer’s leg. Mr. Dwyer, who sustained a compound fracture of the lower leg, was transported by Lewis County Search and Rescue to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Utica.

Upon investigation, police determined the cause of the accident was obstructed view due to environmental issues and no tickets were issued.

Martinsburg Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue and state Environmental Conservation officers assisted on the scene.
