Woman shot at Kindred Hospital in Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Police are investigating a shooting at a Coral Gables hospital Monday.

Sky 10 was above Kindred Hospital, 5190 SW Eighth St., as police tape could be seen surrounding the property.

Police told Local 10 News that the shooting happened about 9:30 a.m.

Miami-Dade police said a man in his 80s shot a woman, who is related to his girlfriend, in the hospital lobby before shooting himself. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Her condition has not been released.

According to detectives, the suspect’s girlfriend of more than 30 years died at the hospital on Sunday. They said it appears that he was upset over her family changing some kind of legal paperwork and called the victim to ask her to come to the hospital.

Police said they were seen speaking in the lobby before the woman began to walk away. That’s when the man fired multiple shots, striking the woman several times, police said.

The woman is expected to survive.

The identities of the suspect and victim were not immediately released.
